We welcome community placements from student social workers, pupils from local schools and Kent police officers.

Bridging the Gap is a great service for the students and the time they spend learning and experiencing how young people are supported at Bridging the Gap is imperative to their work life.

The experience is enriching for all the students and they experience what happens in the sector of social care and how a supported accommodation environment works in real life situations. It provides skills that enable them to make a good rapport and understand the needs of this specific client group, including good communication skills.

This experience also allows for an opportunity to see how everyday challenges are dealt with when they arise and practise skills that they have learnt in their studies at school, at work or at university.

We encourage all work experience students to identify improvements in the service and for them to offer suggestions that could make working with young people easier and improve their lives and any communication they have with us or others.

When receiving feedback from students at the end of their stay, they have informed us that they feel positive in what they have learnt and feel like they are making a difference to the young people’s mental and physical well-being and their lives holistically. Bridging the Gap supports students to learn about the local community and the services that it provides in a safe and supportive environment.
